THE NAME OF THE DISEASE

President Barack Obama now has a parasite named after him.

While that might not sound like the most flattering thing, the scientists who named the new flatworm said they went with the name because the parasite is unique.

Baracktrema obamai is found in Malaysian freshwater turtles. The parasitic flatworm infects their lungs and can be fatal.

Kind of like most of the president’s programs.

When it comes to the parasites, these namesakes might just seem like a really clever way to diss the commander in chief, but having an organism carry your name is actually a honor.

And what president has been more parasitic than Obama?

  1. Too bad the parasite wasn't something found in snakes rather than turtles. It would have been even more apropos.

  2. Well, at least now you might call him a worm, and say, "Ooops, I mistook you for your namesake." Frankly, I think that they might have found a more "tactfully correct honor. Isn't that International Star Registry still in business?
